Ragusa Comiso Airport Car Rental
Ragusa Comiso Airport
Today, Ragusa Comiso Airport is named after Pio La Torre, it was built between 1937 and 1939. Originally, it was dedicated to an Italian general dead during the war in Ethiopia, Vincenzo Magliocco.
The story of this airport is related to the armed forces: during the Second World War it was, indeed, used as a military airport until, in 1943, it fell into the Allies’ hands.
During the post-war period it continued to be used as a military airport and only from the second half of the 1960s it was opened to civil flights: one of the first flights connected Ragusa to Catania. Passed under the control of NATO forces, it was turned into an exclusively civil airport only at the end of 1990s.
From Comiso Airport you can easily reach both Comiso and Ragusa: you just have to drive along the SP30 and the SS514, where you
will take the exit at the height of via Ettore Fieramosca.
